Michigan Bed and Breakfast

Ken and LindaHello!  Please allow us to give a little background so you know who the managers are at the Grand Victorian.  We are well into our eighth year as owners of this award-winning Grand Victorian Bed & Breakfast and what an amazing experience it has been!

Ken grew up in Farmington, Michigan which qualifies him as a “fudgy”.  Linda grew up in Mauston, Wisconsin (i.e. "cheesehead").  After getting married in 1969, we moved to Colorado where Ken began a very rewarding 34 year career with Hewlett-Packard Company. While holding various engineering and management positions with the company, he had frequent opportunity to travel worldwide and learn, develop and employ the very best business practices observed from working with a number of global leading companies HP had partnerships with.  Linda’s career was involved with local school district administration, where she developed a passion for resolving issues related to parents, students, and the schools - not a simple task!  Her work centered on the 9-month school year and allowed us the time to travel together on many of Ken's business trips during the summer months. We were not ones to stay put!  We moved eleven times during our 30 plus year careers, including a wonderful two-year assignment to live in Singapore!

So the obvious question: After all this - how did we end up owning a B&B in Bellaire Michigan?  Basically, it was a dream come true.  Whenever we planned to celebrate a special occasion, we found it a thrill to choose and stay in a B&B for true 'R&R' (Romance and Recuperation). We sought out B&Bs consisting or grand historic homes, wonderful hosts, good guest reviews, fun breakfasts, and the occasional evening aperitif. It turned out our stays always were too short and left us wanting more! So why not buy one? After all, we had read some books on the subject over 20 years prior and the vision of actually owning and operating one was really exciting.  Gee, we can enjoy being in a B&B all the time!

Turns out, an opportunity presented itself when HP and Compaq Computer merged in 2002. HP’s offer to Ken was perfect for what we wanted to do. Within a few months, we were visiting available B&B's in and around Michigan and planning our move.

Why Michigan? Well, the northern Michigan area is where Ken's family spent endearing summers when he was growing up. As a kid, going "Up North" with unlimited swimming, fishing, boating, and lazing around was a dream. Once we saw the Grand Victorian and visited Bellaire the decision was made! The home was clearly the ‘best of the best', and being central to northern Michigan's best travel destinations, we moved quickly and have since developed a B&B experience second to none!

It continues to be our passion to offer the best possible experience to our guests. Much like the computer industry, the lodging business is a dynamic business. Our policies and operations are based on the best industry practices and we are continually experimenting and implementing new ways to build on the GRAND reputation of the Grand Victorian

So, why not consider joining our extended family as one of the many who have crossed our threshold and entered our heart.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us, now let us get to know you...

You're welcome in Bellaire and the Grand Victorian!
